Watching this triple OT game today on Yes reminded me of the time I went up to Toronto on the bus for the weekend and saw THIS GAME. I remember this was around the time Kobe had his little problem in Denver, he was still on the cover of the Slam Magazine I read on the way to and from TDot that weekend. This would be my only time seeing Yao Ming live and in person. He would provide me with a lot of let downs in years to come. Those days are about to come to close I am pretty sure. This season he is likely to sign an incentive-laden deal with another club, or return to China. Either way, it is time for a new era in Houston. This game sort of featured a Rockets club that was a bridge from the Hakeem/Clutch City era to this new generation. I have no idea what the future will bring for the Rockets, I can only hope that the outcome will be slightly better than the last seven years. With how weak this year's draft crop is, I am still hoping for Houston to sneak into the playoffs with either the seventh or eighth seed.

FAB 5 on ESPN next Weekend...
It isn't very often that I get excited for an ESPN film, but this is going to rule. This is the period in my life when I got completely obsessed over basketball and it will be great to reflect on that time. Not only that, but this airs right after selection Sunday. What better way to get March Madness started. I think it's pretty much common knowledge by now who I'll be rooting for...

BLACK N BLUE BOWL: 2011 SUPERBOWL OF HARDCORE
With festival season rapidly approaching, the brothers over at Black N Blue Productions in New York are once again dropping a doozy of a lineup on us with the 2011 Superbowl of Hardcore. The last time I went to one of these shows was actually ten years ago. This lineup contains a few of my all time favorite hardcore bands and (more importantly) a couple bands I have never seen. I won't beat around the bush anymore, here is the lineup...
May 28- Webster Hall New York City
Gorilla Biscuits
Agnostic Front
Terror
Absolution
Antidote
Maximum Penalty
Backtrack
Down To Nothing
Take Offense
No Turning Back
Bottom Out
plus one more top tier Special Guest
As had been rumored, Youth of Today will not be playing the show. Apparently, BNB has plans to have them in NYC in late June. They mentioned that the Agnostic Front show would be a very special set, to be talked about for years to come. As someone who has been huge into AF for fifteen years, I am excited at this announcement. Blood For Blood will be playing in NYC in September so they are not on the bill either. I was also sort of expecting to see Sheer Terror on the lineup, but they were not on there either. Regardless, this will be the best way to kick off summer. Tickets should be on sale soon and will be in the $25-30 range. While they do expect the show to sell out, there will be a limited amount of tickets available at the door the day of the show. I have been writing a lot of pieces on hardcore shows from my past lately. As I am getting ready to turn 30, I have found myself reminiscing on my youth a lot lately. This show should only help that, provided I make it down to NYC for this.

Donald Sterling continues to be a joke
Baron Davis might just have gotten out at the right time. On February 2, during Black History Month, the Clips hosted the Bulls. They also hosted the Celtics in February as well. I would imagine at some point someone probably realized that the Clippers had forgotten Black History Month. What better way to make up for that then to celebrate it two days late? I feel bad for my Rockets being involved with this game.

HC Time Machine: June 20-22, 1997 Ire/Syracuse Fest

The next day, I worked a typical 11-5 Saturday shift at Don & Bob's, mostly serving old people shitty food. When I got out, I rode my bike home, changed my clothes and went about my normal routine. A few of my friends and I adopted a pretty gross hobby in the summers of 1996 and 1997, scum jumping in the canal. In retrospect, it was gross and I wonder if any of those urban legends are true. Anyway, as I got out to the spot we usually jumped from that day, I noticed a bunch of caution tape up around the bridge. As there were no cell phones back then, I got kind of freaked out for about a half hour thinking that something had happened to some of my friends. It turned out to be someone else, still sucks though. Two people were struck and killed on those tracks by a train that day. I don't think we jumped from that bridge very many times again after that, if at all.
