Ian Kennedy and Shelley Duncan

Both of these players played here last year for Scranton. Ian Kennedy was putting up fairly decent numbers this year for Aricona until his last couple starts. He was even borderline fantasy worthy. Shelley Duncan is now playing for the Cleveland Indians and has hit three home runs in the limited time he has received in Cleveland. He hit a home run just after I took the above photo.

Booker T. & The MGs 6-18-10

Definitely a good mix of people turned out for this free show. I can only imagine what Smash Mouth will bring. I plan on walking through the crowd at least once tomorrow evening. I also hope to see Tyler Flowers and Dan Hudson in action for the Charlotte Knights. It's funny that I look more forward to seeing what prospects the Red Wings competition brings into town. I am sure that Hudson will be no Strasburg, but he is ranked in the Baseball America top 100 prospect list. Then again, so is Tyler Flowers and he is batting .218 in the minors this season. If reports are correct though, both of those players should be in the majors by the end of the summer. I wouldn't mind catching a glimpse of them here while I still can. Same goes for Smash Mouth I guess.

Internal Affairs

Cold World (with some help from George from Blacklisted)

Cruel Hand, Alpha & Omega, Mother of Mercy Philly February 1, 2009

Having done a couple shows for Internal Affairs in 2002 and 2003, I figured I should catch a bus down to Philly and check this show out. I think it's worth noting that Final Word played the Montreal show the night before this.

Mother of Mercy

Alpha & Omega

Cruel Hand

Dawn of War last show (March 2009)

This was Dawn of War's last show. They have played two or three times since then. I haven't seen any of these shows.

Review: Reef The Lost Cauze VS DJ Guns N Butter- Fight Music

I've always felt that Reef the Lost Cauze was one of the more underrated members of Army of the Pharaohs. For some reason he really still hasn't gotten his due yet. When he played in Rochester two years ago, he was just standing in front of the stage enjoying the show before he hit the stage. A truly humble MC with a very distinct and original flow, now is the time for Reef to really shine. In an era where most MCs turn the auto-tune on high and feature more R & B singers and weak production than anything else, it is truly refreshing to hear someone like Reef making their presence felt in the underground. Like his contemporaries in Jedi Mind Tricks, Reef proudly carries the hip-hop torch for the city of Philadelphia. Not an overnight success by any means, Reef has been grinding hard in this hip-hop game for the better part of the last decade. Featuring a plethora of hip-hop talent (guest appearances by Vinnie Paz, Kool G Rap, Slaine, R.A. The Rugged Man, and Big Noyd just to name a few), Reef really knows how to share the mic with some of hip-hop's heaviest hitters. But even on the tracks where he raps solo, Reef is still able to produce catchy and quotable hip-hop songs. Most of the production on this album is top notch, although the intro and the first track "OPG Theme" are the standout tracks here for me. That's not to say that there aren't other bangers on here. The tracks "Lazy Sunday" and "Three Greats" are straight bangers and are not to be slept on this summer. This album is going to be essential to complete anyone's east coast underground hip-hop collection.

Slick Rick!!!!!!!

Slick Rick played at Dub Land Underground last May. I was one of the lucky people in attendance that evening. Here are some photos and shitty vid that I took that evening.

Congrats to the Lakers!

The Lakers are repeat NBA champions for the first time in almost a decade. Of course, Kobe Bryant won the Finals MVP and is already talking about next year's playoff run. Kobe is truly one of the best competitors of our era and less night further cemented his place along side Jordan, Bird, Johnson, Russell, Kareem, and all of the other great NBA champions. As most people who watched it will tell you, last night was one of the ugliest NBA Finals games in history The Lakers somehow managed to win the game despite shooting a disgusting 32.5% from the field. As Paul Pierce, Kobe Bryant, and every analyst in America pointed out, rebounding was the true difference in this game. As Pierce also pointed out in his post-game interview: "It is what it is." It is kind of sad to think that this will more than likely be the last game Pierce, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett play as The Big Three in Boston.
Today officially starts one of the most exciting off seasons in NBA history. Next Thursday, the Wizards will select John Wall with the number one overall pick in the NBA Draft. After that, anyone's guess is probably pretty good (although Evan Turner does seem like a safe bet to complete a nucleus that now includes Andre Iguodola, Spencer Hawes, Elton Brand, and Jrue Holiday). We are only about two weeks away from one of the most exciting free agency periods in NBA history as well. On Monday morning, I will be all caught up with everything else on this blog so for the weeks following that I will be closely following the NBA draft. Some of us have been looking forward to this for about four years now. The time has finally come.
Also, I would be wrong if I didn't mention that Brian Scalabrine got in approximately fifty one seconds of playing time last night. That is fifty one seconds more than Adam Morrison has played in the last three rounds combined. Yet Mr Mustache was seen covered in champagne and beer during the Lakers victory celebration last night. Somehow that just does not seem fair.

Here are a few gems Ron Artest left us with after the game.

Stephen Strasburg set to make his third big league start

7PM Friday June 18, 2010 will mark Stephen Strasburg's third start, at home against Gavin Floyd and the Chicago White Sox. I am going to see Booker T. And The MGs at the Rochester Jazz Fest for free, so I will more than likely only see highlights of this game.

This weekend I will be posting archive photos of Cold World, Internal Affairs, Cro Mags, Dawn of War, and a couple other bands. After that, I will have a couple more bio pieces and then it will be all current news pieces. As always, e mail ninetyfourfeettoglory@yahoo.com with any constructive criticisms.

New Terror record, tour starts TOMORROW!

Unless you've been in a coma for the better part of the last decade, you know who Terror is by now. They need no introduction. Tomorrow they are going on tour, with some of the best current bands in hardcore. I am going to try to attend the Buffalo show. You know me though...

Official press release:

The tireless and tour-hungry hardcore loyalists in LA's Terror, spearheaded by the endless enthusiasm of frontman Scott Vogel, have returned with a vicious new chapter to their storied career. The much anticipated new album, Keepers of The Faith, is a worldwide call to the community and an attempt to hear back from the faithful on the front lines.

Keepers of The Faith is 13 new tracks produced by Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory (A Day To Remember, H2O) at Buzzbomb Studios in Orange County, CA. It was engineered by Paul Miner (Death By Stereo, Adamantium) and mixed by Matt Hyde (Slayer, Hatebreed). Keepers of The Faith is set for an August 30th release throughout Europe and a September 14th throughout North America. Doom Patrol will also be issuing the album in Japan on September 1st.

Vogel sums it all up, "This is the record we put everything we have into, from the music to the lyrics, the layout to the title and to the direct hand to hand street marketing approach, we are putting it all on the line. We took all the rules of what's going on in the industry today and washed them from our minds. We wanted to capture those early days of hardcore. This is the record we were destined to make. This is Terror at its best and I'm so excited to get this out and start touring surrounding its energy and passion."

Terror earned quite a reputation since forming at the turn of the millennium. Their melding of no-frills, breakneck hardcore and the fervor of new generation metal bridges the gap between young and old, and it makes for one hell of a pit no matter what city or stage the band leaves in ruins. Vogel has been a key figure in the scene's survival, having given up a normal home life to slug it out on the road despite broken limbs, slipped discs and everything else that comes with hosting a Terror show.
