ROUNDBALL

It was a pretty slow night in the NBA, with only five games on the schedule for the evening.

The Cavs continued on with their impressive losing streak last night, pushing it to 18 in a row against the Celtics last night. This game was over by halftime, as the Celtics sat comfortably with a 20 point lead. Kendrick Perkins got his first run of the season, putting up seven points and six boards in seventeen minutes of action. The Cavs slide continues.

The Denver Nuggets continued on with Carmelo Anthony last night, handing the Washington Wizards a 120-109 defeat. This team could easily win the division if Anthony were to finish the season a Nuggets uniform. Nick Young paced all scorers (and my fantasy team) with 26 points, five boards, and two assists.

The Clippers played the first game of a three to four week stretch without Eric Gordon. They went on the road and faced the Mavericks last night. The Clippers fought this one out, but the Mavericks took over in the second half, eventually winning this game by seven points. Brendan Haywood didn't show up in the box score, but it was his hard foul of Blake Griffin that had people talking after the game. He pulled Griffin down hard on a layup attempt and was immediately called for a flagrant foul. Is a sign of what's to come for Griffin? Jose Juan Barrea and Jason Terry each had one of their bast games of the season off the bench. A Dallas journalist wrote the typical "Blake Griffin come to Dallas" article after the game and of course there's already people trashing him for it. I love the internet. Ziller is pretty right on though.

On June 27, 2001, Michael Jordan made Kwame Brown the first overall pick, ahead of seven future all stars and Brian Scalabrine. Since then, he has gone on to become the biggest NBA draft bust this side of Sam Bowie. This past offseason, the Bobcats (very obviously owned by Michale Jordan)became Brown's fifth team. With career averages of 6.7ppg and 5.5rpg, Brown's biggest claims to fame are Jordan, the #1 pick, and being involved in a Pau Gasol trade. Last night in Sacramento, Kwame Brown continued to quietly try to work all that all time draft bust away from his name. He finished this game with 13 points and 18 rebounds, one short of his career high. While he will probably never be the dominant big that Jordan once dreamed of, he still has the potential to produce a decent a career. He is only 28 years old after all. The Bobcats won this game by five, getting well balanced scoring from DJ Augustin (16), Stephen Jackson, (21), and Gerald Wallace (19). Tyreke Evans and Carl Landry each had 19 points in the defeat.

The Lakers easily handed the Jazz their fifth straight loss, 120-91. The Lakers were able to rest their starters in this one. Only Pau Gasol played 30 minutes in this game (barely, 30:10) as the Lakers were up by 28 at halftime. After starting the season 15-5, the Jazz have been very mediocre. It doesn't get any easier for the Jazz. They return home tonight to host the San Antonio Spurs, owners of the leagues best record.
