Let's Go Rockets!!!!!!

My amazing girlfriend took me to see my favorite basketball team play in one of my favorite cities last week. Here are some pictures. This was one of my first times being starstruck in a very long time. Unfortunately, the Rockets lost the game. This was a game they let slip out of their fingertips in the beginning of the fourth quarter. I should have known when this little twat knocked my girlfriend's veggie burger in my lap as we got back to our seats. Anyway, the Rockets still have a very outside chance at the playoffs though they would need the Hornets to lose virtually every game down the stretch.

Congrats to UCONN

It was easily one of the ugliest basketball games I have ever seen and even I found myself wanting to change the channel several times. I decided to put some money on Connecticut with the point spread before the game though. I just couldn't resist, I knew Butler would run out of gas in this game. But as much as I wanted to change the channel, I couldn't. It was like watching the money come to me. Hell, it isn't even that much. It's really just all of the $50 I should be collecting from a previous bet anyway. As many fans know by now, Butler shot an atrocious 12-64 from the field last night. That breaks down to 9-33 from 3 point range and an astounding 3-31 from inside the arc. That means Butler made less than 10 percent of their layups for the most part. UCONN didn't look all that much better and if this game was against anyone else, they probably would have lost. But Butler had the worst night in NCAA Men's Championship history. For that, UCONN gets to enjoy an NCAA title.

Harvest reuniting this Summer

Via Stuck in the Past

A lot of hardcore bands have reformed in the last few years. Over the last year or two, a lot of the good mid to late-90s bands have been getting in on the fun. You can now add Minnesota band Harvest to the list. I saw this band three or four times before they called it a day and they were always a good time live. Tickets for this show go on sale next Friday. Disembodied, Iron Rain, Former Thieves, and Relentless will be appearing on this show as well. MORE INFO

Happy Birthday to Kyle Lowry, Sheryl Swoopes, Bob Sura

Today a few people with ties to Houston are celebrating birthdays. Bob Sura closed his career with the Rockets, though he was only able to play one season due to knee and back injuries that forced him to retire before he really wanted to. Sura tried a comeback with the Rockets in '07, but that never panned out for him. It kind of sucks to think that the last game Sura ever played was a 40 point loss to the Mavericks in game 7 of the first round. I remember falling asleep during this game. Sura's best overall game for the Rockets came in January of '05 against the Nets. He went off for a career high 35 points that night, in helping Houston defeat New Jersey in overtime. Sura is perhaps best known for almost finishing with three consecutive triple doubles for the Atlanta Hawks. He was also a part of the Rasheed Wallace trade that sent Sheed to the eventual NBA Champion Detroit Pistons.

Speaking of triple doubles, Kyle Lowry appears to have started celebrating his birthday earlier this week. On Sunday, Lowry led the Rockets in a very close victory over the Utah Jazz. He finished the night 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, good for his first career triple double. Lowry followed that up with a double double against the Warriors, finishing the night with 13 points and 12 dimes. Chuck Hayes kept the triple double streak alive for Houston by getting his first career triple double. More importantly, Houston kept trucking right along. Houston will play next in Miami on Sunday and then in New Jersey on Tuesday. After that, my girlfriend and I will be in attendance to watch the Rockets take on 76ers. It will be my first time seeing the Rockets live in over seven years. I am very excited to see this team. Also, we are sitting very close. I hope the Rockets inch even closer to the 8th playoff spot in these three games.

Also, happy birthday to Dale Davis (42) and Marco Belinelli (25).
